Moving things around in the sewing room. Bags of scraps that have been given to me are moved into large container under the cutting table. From that location I can sort through pieces by color or size and put away. I will be able to cut some pieces to go into scrap system drawers quickly at the cutting table.
Over this past year I have let go of some material so it isn't floating around the sewing rooms. I take it our guild meeting or give to anothe quilter who is making scrap quilts. I have accumulated a huge pile of strips and strings. These will go into two projects I have going. Mini string blocks, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", will use up the smaller string strips. Larger strips will go into my 5 1/2" blocks for a large string block quilt.
Off to the sewing area, to work on four patches for the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt.
Let's get those WIP's and UFO's completed so everyone can enjoy the beautiful quilts we create!

End of year sewing room organizing
End of the year, time to take stock of what is happening in the sewing room and rooms! I stretch my sewing area over three rooms. I have to be careful as projects then get put in various places. Not a good think. Out of sight, out of mind.
So...moving things around and putting items where they belong. Projects in one area, material on shelves or into plastic drawer containers. Then I can work so much faster and easier on projects to move them to completion.
At the same time, I am taking stock of what projects are on the list or UFO's that have hidden themselves away...My UFO challenge list for 2017 already has 75 projects listed.

Stitching in the Fall
I always seem to reve up my time in the sewing room at this time of the year. Quilts are changed in the bedrooms and moved around in the living room. I take more time in my sewing room, cutting materials and sewing units together. The stashbuster online group has been a motivating force for me to purchase less material and complete my UFO's.
Currently working on two quilts. Quilt number one is "Jarad Takes a Wife", original block name is Blackford's Beauty. This was started in a class with Bonnie Hunter last March. Enjoy taking classes and learning more tips from instructors and other quilters. I am busy sashing the blocks and putting rows together. I see a finish in the near future.
Quilt number two is on the long arm, waiting to be stitched. Looks like that will be a weekend project!

Friday Stringing
Oh, I love making string blocks. I have three ideas going. One quilt, Colorful Star Strings will be blocks put together to create stars. Red, blue, yellow, purple, orange, and green Stars. I saw a picture of this two years ago. Now has moved from my thinking to being completed.
Second string quilt block units will have a white center strip, so a secondary pattern will emerge when all are put together. I just grab a foundation and sew til I have a pile on the floor next to me. I like this simple, mindless sewing.
The additional block units I am making are just random pull the strings out and sew them to the foundation, for a later quilt!
Tomorrow I will concentrate on my Disappearing Hour Glass. I need to get that top done, quilted and ready to go for our February guild meeting.

Thinking Thursday
Yes, doing some thoughtful thinking today. Working on my next finish, while I get ready for a strings demo at our guild on Monday night. It is so easy to get addicted to string quilting. I have three going right now. Star String Blocks, mini string blocks and my regular 5 1/2 inch strings.
Goal today is to get all preparations finished and ready to go for Monday. Once that is done I can work on blocks to finish Disappearing Hour Glass top.
Need to reduce this string pile at some time today or tomorrow. Cut into squares or apply to foundations. Off to get my day's task accomplished. Will be thoughtfully thinking will I am sewing.

The new year begins. 2016 will be filled with my love of quilting. I have my updated UFO Challenge list completed. Working to get to two tops done this week. I have several moving to the stage of flimsy. That is they are pieced, reading for a backing and then quilted together. I have one charity quilt that I am hemming the binding so it will be done for the guild meeting. Check that one off the list. Now to get Disappearing Hourglass to a flimsy top. So I am off to my sewing haven.
Black, White and Red Jelly Roll quilt. Finished last week, so I am off to a good start!
