Friday Stringing

Oh, I love making string blocks.  I have three ideas going.  One quilt, Colorful Star Strings will be blocks put together to create stars.  Red, blue, yellow, purple, orange, and green Stars.  I saw a picture of this two years ago.  Now has moved from my thinking to being completed.

Second string quilt block units will have a white center strip, so a secondary pattern will emerge when all are put together.  I just grab a foundation and sew til I have a pile on the floor next to me.  I like this simple, mindless sewing.

The additional block units I am making are just random pull the strings out and sew them to the foundation, for a later quilt!

Tomorrow I will concentrate on my Disappearing Hour Glass.  I need to get that top done, quilted and ready to go for our February guild meeting.

Thinking Thursday

Yes, doing some thoughtful thinking today.  Working on my next finish, while I get ready for a strings demo at our guild on Monday night.  It is so easy to get addicted to string quilting.  I have three going right now.  Star String Blocks, mini string blocks and my regular 5 1/2 inch strings.

Goal today is to get all preparations finished and ready to go for Monday. Once that is done I can work on blocks to finish Disappearing Hour Glass top.

Need to reduce this string pile at some time today or tomorrow.  Cut into squares or apply to foundations.   Off to get my day's task accomplished.  Will be thoughtfully thinking will I am sewing.

The new year begins.  2016 will be filled with my love of quilting.  I have my updated UFO Challenge list completed.  Working to get to two tops done this week. I have several moving to the stage of flimsy.  That is they are pieced, reading for a backing and then  quilted together.  I have one charity quilt that I am hemming the binding so it will be done for the guild meeting.  Check that one off the list.  Now to get Disappearing Hourglass to a flimsy top.  So I am off to my sewing haven.

Black, White and Red Jelly Roll quilt.  Finished last week, so I am off to a good start!

Saturday Sewing Time

I am busy putting borders on two quilts.  Next step get them on long arm to quilt them.  Feels so good getting to flimsy stage knowing the end is in sight.   It will feel even better when I get to the finished stage.  Binding on and complete!

2015 UFO Completion

Got 'er Done!  Picked this top up at a sale in 2011...it was in pile to get completed.  A nice one to get finished and start my New Year Challenge.  I had to add one more border, found a backing in my stash with blue stars and a dark blue for the binding.  I have 60 quilts listed for the Stashbuster Challenge.   Only 59 more quilts to move to completion.

Quilting Challenges for 2015

January gets me motivated to dig into my UFO quilt tops that are in various stages of work.

Tonight I am putting on last border of my Blue Pineapple Blossom Quilt.   I have fallen love with this blue and white top.   Last border will finish the top.  Next step, prepare backing material and get on to the long arm.

The next project in the sewing room ready to be finished is scrappy string quilt.  The units have to be put together and then borders added.  This quilt is a gift to my brother.  Need to get done as his birthday was in August...

I am close to finishing this quilt, this week.

I am working on a no buy year...need to get current material put into quilts.

Resolutions 2015:
  • to complete quilts so I can work to reduce current UFO List
  • work to have a "no buy year"; visit other quilters who can swap materials, purchase only necessary buys to complete current UFO's
  • create a new list for projects that come up after January 1.

Weekly Stash Report 2015

Fabric Used this Week: 7 yards (border, backing and binding)
Fabric Used year to Date:  7 yards
Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 0 yards
Net Added for 2015: 0 yards

I think I will take a picture to support me in my stash busting.  Stash busting has me working to use material and projects I already have on hand. So helpful to have a creative husband who is using my stash to build quilts of his own to share with others..

How do I account for fabric given to me?   I have been gifted a wonderful pile of scraps....12 bags of fabric sorted by color, along with a box of strips.  The strips are going into the next string quilt.  But wait, that would be an add to my UFO list.  Guess will add that new projects started this year list!

Happy Quilting!
